My approach

  • I work from a psychodynamic perspective or in other words, I am interested in how your past informs your present. I work with individuals and couples on discovering how they came to view themself based on cultural, familial, and societal messaging, including sizeism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, ableism, and all other forms of oppression. I then explore with my clients how they want to relate to themself in ways that honor their own authenticity, nuance, and contradictions. For clients interested, this work can include internal family systems, which is a therapeutic modality created by Richard Schwartz that uses a mixture of elements from family therapy and meditation to support people in relating to their past in new ways through deepened self-understanding, compassion, and agency.

  • I am really passionate about supporting my clients in learning how to connect back to their body. I find this piece is really important in change work. So often, we know one thing and do another. I believe that by forming a relationship to our body, we can learn how to pause long enough to begin to make new choices for ourselves that align with our needs and desires. I am trained in EMDR and mindfulness practices and tend to use either or both in supporting the individuals and couples I work with in fostering a connection back to their body and in the case of couples, each other.

  • I believe the challenges we experience in our relationships show up in the therapeutic relationship. For example, let’s say you are a person who shows up for everyone else, but yourself. You start to notice in your therapy sessions that you go along with what your therapist is saying, rather than noticing when you are needing something different and expressing that. I believe these moments can be so rich when we notice and talk about them in session, so a new way of relating can be created that meets your needs as an individual or in a couple.

  • I love astrology. It has been such a helpful tool for me in my own healing. We all need people & objects that mirror the truest parts of us back to ourself and for me, that has been what my birth chart has done. For individuals and couples interested, we can use your birth chart as a tool for deepened awareness and understanding of your needs, disposition, strengths and challenging parts of self.
